Arctic Monkeys
The Arctic Monkeys performed two concerts on SIV's Don Valley Bowl on 10th and 11th June 2011 for 10,000 fans each night.
The Don Valley Bowl has been used for music festivals in the past but not a concert on this scale.
The Arctic Monkeys could have opted for a bigger, more traditional, arena venue but chose a relatively unusual setting.
A huge marquee was constructed on the green. "The band wanted to do something different, and created a festival-type feel. The bowl looked very impressive," said Dominic Stokes, general manager of events for Sheffield International Venues. "It was something special - a homecoming - and it's put Sheffield on the map."
Twenty thousand fans snapped up tickets on the day they went on sale, including fans from Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, France and Portugal.
It's a high-profile event that will help highlight the city as a location for all types of concerts and other events - one that is generating interest throughout the music industry.
The Verdict
"I would like to pass on thanks from the Arctic Monkeys management and also add my own sincere thanks to you and all of your team for your help, advice and support in the lead up to and during these shows. - There was a huge effort from everyone from SIV to make these events a success and we could not have done it without you! Thanks again." Andy, Head of Production
