SIV Appoints General Manager of Events
Dominic Stokes has become Sheffield International Venues’ new General Manager of Events.
The move for Dominic follows a successful five year role as general manager of Sheffield City Hall, where he was responsible for the reopening of the venue following a two year closure and £12 million refurbishment.
During his time at the City Hall, Dominic maintained the venue’s well respected reputation within the entertainment sector, but also established it as one of the premier locations for conferencing and business events in the country when his title was extended to general manager of Conferencing and Events across SIV.
He will now concentrate on positioning SIV and its venues including City Hall, Sheffield Ponds Forge, Sheffield, the English Institute of Sport – Sheffield (EIS Sheffield) and Don Valley Stadium, as the first choice for live events in the Yorkshire area.
Dominic, who won the Personality of the Year prize at Insider’s Yorkshire Business Tourism Awards 2010, said: “Sheffield and Sheffield International Venues should not be shy about shouting about our live event portfolio of venues and products. There is no place in the country that can compete with us when we are at our very best.
“Events have an important role to play in the local economy. Over the course of the financial year 2009-2010 SIV was responsible for fuelling an estimated £12 million back into the South Yorkshire’s business economy.
“My new role will be to continue to attract key business to Sheffield and maximise every opportunity to showcase the city and its venues as a top destination.”
Dom’s responsibilities will include maximising profitability of all SIV events; providing an exceptional range of products and services for current and future target markets; maximising the economic impact of all non sporting events held in SIV venues, procuring an entertainment event programme, building industry networks and connections, and developing and implementing a future business model for sporting events. A key part of the role will also be the continued development of SIV’s Ticketing Agency, the Arena Ticket Shop in conjunction with the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield
Steve Brailey, chief executive of SIV, said: “We, along with many other companies, are facing a challenging trading future and whilst we must continue to reduce costs where possible, we must also generate new business.
“Dom’s new role should enable us to focus on attracting more business and entertainment events.
“I wish Dom every success in his new position and would like to thank him for the excellent results at City Hall whilst he has been the General Manager.”
Andy Graham becomes acting general manager at Sheffield City Hall.
